THE AREA

Delta Oaks Lodge sits between Jackson Point Hunting Club and the famous Dale Bumper White River National Wildlife Refuge. There is access to the public Hudson Boat Landing into the White River on NWR property approximately 10 minutes to the west and private boat landing into the Mellwood Oxbow Lake within a couple minutes. This convenience also gives you immediate access into the Mississippi River and Desoto Oxbow Lake on the east side of the Mississippi River. The Lodge is also less than a quarter mile from a nice well stocked country store serving fresh hot cooked meals.

The Lodge lets you comfortably enjoy all the wonders of the outdoors on 160,756 acres of Dale Bumper White River Refuge and 55,000 acres Cache River Refuge. You also have access to the 22,600 acres of St Francis National Forest/Crowley Ridge for Hunting, Fishing, Boating/Kayaking, Bird Watching, Hiking, Biking, Tanning on the sandbars and new adventures around every bend, nook, and cranny.

The Dale Bumpers White River Refuge consists of about 154,000 acres of the most intact, least disturbed, pristine bottomland hardwood forests in the Mississippi Valley region, 4000 acres of open water (both natural and man-made lakes), and 1000 acres of grasslands and about 900 acres of cropland.  Due to this extraordinary habitat, a location along the Mississippi flyway, and the abundance of agriculture fields in the region, hundreds of thousands of migratory ducks and geese flock to this area each year. It is stated as being used by the largest concentration of wintering mallard ducks in North America. It’s also stated that a massive number of Snow, and Speckled Belly geese use the property and the surrounding area of agriculture fields.

In addition, this region of the Mississippi Delta produces the overwhelming majority of Bucks that qualify for recognition by the Boone & Crockett and Pope and Young Clubs respectfully. According to the records most of the best Bucks killed have come from the lower drainages of major rivers, specifically the White, Arkansas, Cache, and St Francis Rivers. At the heart of it all is Phillips County, AR., which abuts the Mississippi River roughly from Helena-West Helena southward almost to Snow Lake and is the Arkansas leading county for tagging a Boone & Crockett Typical AND Non Typical Buck! Across the Mississippi River to the east is neighboring Coahoma County, MS whom also leads Mississippi for tagging Boone & Crockett Typical Buck’s.  Not to forget that the region also has a sustainable population of other game animals like Turkey, Rabbit, and Squirrel that you could enjoy hunting. There’s even Black Bear in the area. Although, they are prohibited to hunt on NWR property they are fun to see. Lastly, there’s some of the best freshwater fishing you can imagine on the rivers, bayous, and 100’s of natural and man-made lakes. Crappie, Largemouth Bass, and Catfish are some the favorites.
